The Optimal Learning Centre (OLC)

The Optimal Learning Centre (OLC) at BISS is devoted to helping each student reach their personal best. The focus is on the individual learning styles and needs of all students, ranging from those with mild learning difficulties to students in need of enrichment in one or more academic areas.

The Optimal Learning Coordinators seek to gain a thorough understanding of each student’s individual needs through differentiation in teaching strategies, academic adaptations, observations, team meetings, family interviews and assessment.

A referral for support can be made by anyone involved in the student’s learning.

Our teachers work in collaborative teams to support the needs of every child and use a number of tools to achieve this goal, e.g. Kid Chat, Differentiation Meetings, and collaborative meetings, to name a few. As a result, students may have access to accommodations according to their individual needs.

Parent support is a crucial part of the learning process, and is encouraged through regular meetings, emails and updates.

The vision of the Optimal Learning Centre is to provide a wide variety of services that support students and teachers in determining learning needs and styles in order for students to gain optimal access to the curriculum in an inclusive programme.

As a part of the support programme, students may benefit from one or a combination of the following support models used at BISS.

  • In- class support
  • Individualized Education Plan
  • Behaviour Management Intervention
  • Remediation Programme
  • Extension Programme
  • Adaptive Technology
  • Tailored teaching strategies
